Insurance Program for Methadone Clinics

Abuse of heroin and opioids (prescription pain killers) in the United States is reaching unprecedented levels and causing concern across all segments of society. It is estimated that of the 22,134 deaths relating to prescription drug overdose in 2010, 16,652 (75%) involved opioids and 6,497 (30%) involved benzodiazepines (psychoactive drugs). More than 3,000 deaths that year were from heroin overdoses.

To help treat individuals with heroin or other opiate addictions, methadone clinics are available that provide a detoxification program and other services. The goal of this type of detox program is to achieve safe and humane withdrawal from opiates by minimizing the severity of withdrawal symptoms and other medical complications.
